<image:title>Couples Therapy - “We are never so vulnerable as when we love.” Sigmund Freud</image:title>
<image:caption>There is nothing so distressing as when a love relationship starts to feel bad. When intimacy, romance, sharing, and laughter has turned to distance, frustration, resentment or just disconnection, it can be painful. Life is simply more difficult when you struggle to connect with your person. Some common things I hear in my office: “It’s like we’re having the same argument over and over again.” “He doesn’t care that I feel this bad. He won’t listen to me.” “She thinks I do everything wrong. It has to be her way.” “I’m not sure anymore if we belong together.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Couples Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Time and the journey of life together can take a toll on a couple’s sense of connection. Often, couples find themselves having the same argument over and over again, fighting about the same past events, getting more and more disconnected each time. This repeated pattern creates a negative dance for couples that can seem impossible to stop. Couples that have been married 10, 20 and more years can start to wonder, What happened to our love? Have we simply grown apart? Are we simply too different? Is there any hope for our relationship?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Couples Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Regardless of where you are in your relationship, what your conflict and disconnection look like, couples therapy can help. I have worked with couples in all levels of distress from the first worries about conflict to those considering divorce including: -couples wanting more emotional and/or sexual intimacy -couples wondering if their relationship will last or if they want to remain together -couples that are struggling through the challenges of parenting -couples that have experienced betrayal</image:caption>

<image:caption>Individual therapy is focused on finding healing, clarity or connection within. You may be experiencing the impact of trauma. <image:caption>I have worked with those who have experienced childhood physical or sexual abuse, difficult or traumatic family histories, problems in relationships, unrelenting fear and anxiety, persistent depression, assault, perinatal loss and more. We will use the space between us, client and therapist, to help you move toward connection and healing. In individual therapy, I primarily use the models of EFIT: Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy and EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. These models are researched based and are highly effective forms of therapy.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I am an EMDRIA certified therapist. EMDR is a model of therapy focused on treating the impact of trauma events on the mind and body. Research has shown EMDR to be an effective treatment for trauma and can be a short term therapy. EMDR is a focused therapy that targets specific traumatic experiences. It helps to relieve symptoms of trauma like intrusive thoughts and flashbacks, emotional flooding, and numbing. While trauma often causes a disconnection, EMDR and other trauma focused therapy restores integration to promote healing and growth within.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About Me</image:title>
<image:caption>As long as I can remember, I have been drawn to moments and experiences of connection, of healing. My heart aches when distress, distance and pain are present. Becoming a therapist felt like a natural step of moving further into this part of myself. It allowed me to not just feel compassion with others in moments of distress, but to be part of the healing process. I feel energized and touched when someone experiences a felt sense of connection and healing within. I feel humbled and privileged to watch a couple move into renewed connection together, finding their love and bond again. It is an honor to be let into that sacred space, to witness hearts soften and reach for each other. It is so gratifying to know I have helped an individual or couple in this way, and by default I have helped a family, a community. When we experience security in our relationships and tools for holding space for our own experience, we extend that ability to others in our lives. I created The Space Between, LLC from this passion for the life giving and life changing impact that secure relationships have on all of us. My goal is to help you discover safe connection, internally and externally and to help you know how to reach and connect with those you love.</image:caption>

If you are like many of my clients, you have endured trauma early in life or as an adult. Trauma is an overwhelming experience that challenges your ability and capacity to respond and impacts many areas of your life. We will use experiential tools that help to resolve trauma and get unstuck to create the internal space needed to grow as you move forward. <image:caption>As I consider the work of coming along side clients in therapy a privilege, it is equally humbling to join with other clinicians for EFT supervision. It is vulnerable to learn such an emotional and experiential model. We need the use of ourselves, awareness of and access to our own emotions all the while choreographing the dance of the couple, family or individual before us. It is not easy to hold all the pieces together.</image:caption>

We will rely on role plays and at times self of therapist work to dig in and experience from the inside out the skills and learning you are developing. <image:title>Family Therapy - “Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.” Elizabeth Stone</image:title>
<image:caption>Parenting is, by far, one of the hardest jobs in the world. However, despite so much raw love for our children, sometimes we get stuck in negative patterns that leave us feeling unable to connect with them, locked out of their world or unable to understand their behaviors.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Family Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>In family therapy, we will focus on creating secure, attuned attachment between parents and children. I use the model of EFFT: Emotionally Focused Family Therapy when working with families. This is a relational model of family therapy that focuses on creating connection within families to facilitate a healthy bond and secure foundation for growing young people. This type of therapy is typically for children ages seven and older and may involve the entire family or one dyad.</image:caption>
